Because of the lack of texture (tooth) to the paper, I’m not sure how many layers of pigment very seriously artistic colorists could build up using soft core, blendable pencils without using solvents (I didn’t try that hard and only used a few light layers).

The paper took Sharpies (which are alcohol-based) pretty well over a small area. I usually only use Sharpies for small accent areas.

I did not try any blending or burnishing pencils, or solvents. If review readers choose to use wet media, such as markers or gel pens, or using solvent blending agents (alcohol, baby oil, mineral spirits, petroleum jelly, and so on) they probably should use cardstock behind pages to protect the other pages, or consider removing their working page from the book, or consider pre-prepping the pages with a fluid-tolerant treatment.

There are color palettes you can purchase. I am satisfied with the free ones. You can enlarge the picture also to get the small spaces. I do recommend this especially if you have anxiety disorders or depression.
